Barker Sensei's Biography

Greg Barker Sensei began training with Thomas Lyon Sensei of San Jose, California in 1971.  In college, he co-founded Cal Poly Aiki Kai and received instruction from Ken Ota Sensei and Steve Ota Sensei of Santa Barbara.  Barker Sensei joined Shiohira Sensei's program at Foothill Community College in 1979.  He has chosen to maintain the relationship over the years and distance because of Shiohira Sensei's clear-minded approach to aikido and his way of living.

Barker Sensei helped build the dojo headed by Joseph Birdsong Sensei in Urbana, Illinois.  Barker Sensei began teaching the classes Birdsong Sensei founded with the Urbana Recreation and Parks Department when the latter moved to Texas in 1983.

Barker Sensei began the Cuesta Aikido program at Cuesta College, San Luis Obispo in 1987.  By 2001 the program was relocated to the Morro Bay Community Center, where it remains today.
